The Alpha Course – begins 6.45pm Sunday 14 September in Green Pastures Cafe

Alpha is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed setting over ten Sunday evening sessions and one whole Saturday. Each session begins at 6.45pm with a meal together and finishes by 9pm. It is low key, friendly and fun. It is a place where no question is too simple or too hostile.

Everyone is welcome on an Alpha course. Some want to investigate whether God exists and if there is any point to life and what happens after death. Others may have attended church on and off over their lives but feel they never really have understood the basics of the Christian faith.

The course - which is free - is open to everyone and we encourage you to bring a friend.

The Topics

Introductory session: Is there more to life than this?
Does faith have any relevance today?
Christianity - Boring, Irrelevant, True?

Session 2: Why did Jesus die?
The cross, its significance and His achievement.

Alpha Day:
We spend a day away from Westhill on a Saturday halfway through the course (Saturday 1 November). This runs from 10am-5pm.  It is a day of fun, discussion and learning.

The topic we look at during this day is The Holy Spirit. It is integral to the course. We look at the following:

Who is the Holy Spirit? - What does the Holy Spirit do? - How to be filled with the Holy Spirit?

Session 7: How to resist evil?
What to do.

Session 8: Why and how to tell others?
Discussing faith in a natural manner.

Session 9: Does God heal today?
Does it still happen today - what to expect
How to pray for the sick.

Session 10: What about the church?
Do you have to go to church to be a Christian?
Where do we fit into church?
