The Bereavement Journey


This is a course designed to help bereaved people to process their grief and to begin to move forward in life after loss.   It is run at Westhill Community Church over 7 weeks with each session lasting just over 2 hours.  Each session comprises two films followed by and opportunity for discussion in small groups.  We’ll cover topics such as:
  • Attachment, separation and loss
  • The impact and pain of bereavement
  • Anger and guilt
  • Coping with others’ reactions.
 We would love to be able walk this difficult journey with you.
 
Who can attend ?
  • People of any faith or no faith (not just people who may go to church).  There is an optional final 7th session which is more reflective and is about faith questions in bereavement and offers a Christian perspective.
  • Anyone over 18 who has been bereaved at any time, 4 weeks ago or 20 years ago, although we recommend that people do not attend until after the funeral.  The course can be attended more than once as the way we face grief may change over time. 
We do not have childcare facilities so would ask you not to bring anyone under the age of 18 with you.
 
When is the next course ?
  • Starting January  22nd weekly for 7 sessions. 
  • Thursday evening 7.00 to 9.30pm at Westhill Community Church.
    ​(If the weather is bad we may need to postpone a week but would let you know). 
  • It is recommended you attend the first 6 sessions if possible but if you miss the first session you can join at session 2.
 
How can I join the course ?
  • You can register for the course online by clicking on the Online Registration label below which takes you to an online booking form.
  • Or you complete a paper copy of the Registration form. Paper forms can be collected from the church office or the information desk in the entrance hall of the church (beside the TV). They can also be downloaded (pdf format) by clicking on the Download label below. Please either drop off the completed form at the Church Office, or email a copy to [email protected] , by Wednesday 14 January 
    (​If the office is closed, there is a postbox to the right of the office door on the right as you enter the church.)
Once your booking has been registered, you will get an email to confirm.   The email will explain how to pay and how to cancel your booking should circumstances change.
